TEREA Kazakhstan tobacco sticks are designed for use exclusively with the IQOS ILUMA heated tobacco system. This collection is manufactured by Philip Morris International for the Kazakhstan market and is supplied to adult users in the UAE through Jato.ae.

The Kazakhstan range is produced as a regional edition. Compared with other regional editions, these blends carry a slightly fuller tobacco body and more pronounced aroma notes.

How the TEREA System Works

TEREA sticks are not cigarettes. They are sealed heated tobacco units engineered for the IQOS ILUMA platform and operate using the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM.

In this system, a stainless-steel-coated metal element is sealed inside each stick at the factory. The tobacco is heated from its core rather than burned, which means there is no combustion, no ash, and no tobacco residue inside the device after use.

The result is a cleaner draw, reduced lingering smell, and consistent flavour from the first puff to the fourteenth.

Each pack contains 20 sticks. A full carton contains 10 packs, for a total of 200 sticks per carton.

According to the IQOS UAE official guide, “An experience with IQOS ILUMA lasts up to 6 mins or 14 puffs, whichever comes first.” Each TEREA stick contains 0.5 mg of nicotine.

The Six Kazakhstan Flavours

The Kazakhstan core lineup is divided into a warm-tobacco family and a menthol/aromatic family. The descriptors below are the official Philip Morris International one-line taste notes.

• TEREA Turquoise Kazakhstan: “Crisp menthol cooling coupled with a lightly toasted tobacco blend and enriched by subtle zesty aroma notes.” The most popular menthol option in this range.
• TEREA Yellow Kazakhstan: “Mellow and aromatic tobacco blend coupled with effervescent zesty aroma notes.” The lightest stick in the range.

Device Compatibility

TEREA sticks operate only with devices that use induction heating, because the heating element is located inside the stick rather than the device.

The Kazakhstan range is compatible with the full IQOS ILUMA device range, which includes ILUMA Standard, ILUMA Prime, and ILUMA One.

ILUMA / ILUMA Prime pocket charger fully charges in approximately 135 minutes (about 2 hours 15 minutes). ILUMA One is an all-in-one device that fully charges in 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes) and delivers “up to 20 consecutive uses of TEREA sticks on a single charge.”

The range is also compatible with the seventh-generation IQOS ILUMA i device range, including ILUMA i, ILUMA i Prime, and ILUMA i One.

The IQOS UAE FlexPuff page states: “When the FlexPuff feature is active, the IQOS ILUMA i adapts to how the adult user puffs their device. As a result, it may provide 4 extra puffs still within the 6-minute duration.” The same page confirms: “Pause Mode enables experiences with devices in the IQOS ILUMA i range to be paused for up to 8 minutes and then resumed.”

For third-party heated tobacco devices, the Lambda device range includes the Lambda i8. Per Lambda’s official specifications, the i8 has a “Battery capacity: 3200 mAh, Working temperature: 200 to 300 degrees C adjustable, Smoking time: 3 to 6 min. adjustable, Smoking times: 35 to 40 times (full charge).” It accepts TEREA, SENTIA, and other Smartcore-format sticks.

Please note: TEREA sticks are not compatible with IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS Originals, or any earlier blade-based generation. Inserting a TEREA stick into a blade-based device may damage the heating element.

The SMARTCORE Induction System

Earlier IQOS devices used a ceramic blade inserted into the stick to conduct heat outward. This blade was fragile, required regular cleaning, and the surrounding tobacco often left residue.

The SMARTCORE system removes the blade entirely. The metal heating element is embedded inside the TEREA stick and sealed at both ends.

When the stick is inserted into an ILUMA holder, the device generates an electromagnetic field that heats the inner element by induction. The tobacco warms from its core, does not burn, and the device remains clean.

As Bertrand Bonvin, President Heat-Not-Burn Platforms at PMI, stated in the March 2024 press release: “Like previous IQOS devices, it emits, on average, 95% lower levels of harmful chemicals compared with cigarettes.”

PMI’s footnote on the same release clarifies that “‘95% less’ represents the average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to the smoke of a reference cigarette (3R4F). It does not necessarily equal a 95% reduction in risk.” IQOS ILUMA is not risk-free.
